Here is an idea, I did this in one of my films.

What I did was I got a large spray bottle, the kind used to spray weed killer in my back yard. I connected a new hose to it and pumped the bottle up a lot, I pratically broke that handle off the thing. Instead of pressure being released gradually, it comes shooting out all at once. I put a funnle at the end of the hose with with pieces of cloth soaked in red die and shoved them down the hose and in the funnle.
Then when I released the pressure it looked like pieces of the body went flying all over the place. You can use that same effect for gun shots to. Just don't use the funnle. Just shove the stuff down the hose.
